What is Dynamics 365 Project Tenerife?

In September, Microsoft announced a new codename for the next phase of Dynamics 365. And ever since, partners and customers alike have been asking “What is Dynamics 365 Project Tenerife?”

I attended the Directions EMEA Microsoft partner conference in early October to find out more. If you’re unsure what Dynamics 365 Project Tenerife is, this sound bite is for you. It’s a recorded Q&A session of my colleague and I discussing the future of Dynamics 365, Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV and explaining exactly what Project Tenerife is.

You can also find the transcript of our conversation below.

Steven, you’re recently back from Directions EMEA 2017, what can you share with us about Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Tenerife?

Project Tenerife is Microsoft’s latest business solution.

At the Directions partner conference, Microsoft announced more information on the rebranded version of Dynamics 365 for Financials, which they are referring to as Project Tenerife, for the time being. But the name will change.

What is so special about the rebranded version of Dynamics 365 for Financials?

The rebranded version of Dynamics 365 for Financials is packed with functionality that makes it more than a financial solution, hence the rebrand. The update will introduce the features you would expect from one of their established standalone ERP solutions like Dynamics GP, but with all of the connectivity benefits of the Dynamics 365 and Office 365 apps.

Some of the specific features that Microsoft has mentioned in the Project Tenerife Roadmap include:
– Further advanced financial management capabilities
– Sales order management
– Basic marketing campaign management
– Manufacturing & supply chain management

When can businesses start using these Project Tenerife features?

The Cloud version is planned to be released in Spring 2018, there will also be an on-premise alternative to follow.

What is the future for the other Dynamics ERP solutions?

The next major version for Dynamics NAV users will be Project Tenerife as its built on the same code base.

Dynamics GP has new versions on the roadmap till 2020 and beyond. GP users interested in Dynamics 365 will be able to take advantage of a migration tool available for newer versions of GP.

What can be done in the meantime?

I would advise people who are looking to keep up with developments on features to check the roadmap (https://roadmap.dynamics.com/). We expect Microsoft to release more information on the new name and price soon, so keep an eye out for updates and talk to us if you have any questions.
