m-hance, a leading Microsoft Gold Partner and provider of Microsoft solutions to organisations based in the UK and Ireland, has been assisting with Taylor Maxwell’s journey to Microsoft Cloud.
Founded in 1959, Taylor Maxwell started as a small enterprise and commenced operations merchanting bricks and timber in Bristol. Now part of the Brickability Group PLC, the organisation employs just under 200 people in 16 locations and is on a mission to be industry leaders in driving positive change in the construction industry and working together with its partners for a better future. The company supplies a wide portfolio of products including brick, timber, cladding and masonry solutions for customers across the UK.
Taylor Maxwell has been an existing customer of m-hance’s with its Microsoft Dynamics GP solution for over 10 years. For the past two years, the team there has been working closely with m-hance to move to Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop to support their Dynamics GP solution. Since then, the organisation has integrated multiple bespoke applications to this platform and has grown from 60 users and are planning to reach around 300 users in the Microsoft Azure solution that m-hance has put together with Taylor Maxwell’s IT team, enabling them to scale up and meet the demands and requirements of the business going forwards.

Taylor Maxwell has been on a journey with m-hance and Microsoft Azure over the past two years. The organisation has always had physical servers for its Dynamics GP solution, based in its head office in Bristol. The team were initially reluctant to start looking into the cloud and using products like Azure. However, over time, after initial conversations with m-hance and some of the possibilities around migrating to the cloud and the benefits it brings, they eventually decided to make the move to Microsoft Azure. The team now has in place a SQL server and a number of Azure Virtual Desktop machines for their users to log into, meaning they are able to access all of their programmes from anywhere.

“One of the key benefits has been tapping into m-hance’s experience and expertise in terms of Microsoft Azure because as a department we’ve never really had those skills in house. m-hance helped to get us up to speed and set the services up. We have got a number of servers now that are all running in Microsoft Azure and over time, as we’ve expanded as a business, we have put in more powerful machines. We’ve also needed to increase the number of users mainly because our business has increased, but this has been quite a straightforward process with the Technical Services Team at m-hance, where we’ve asked for the specs to be increased and then most of the time the work is done out of hours, meaning there is no disruption to our normal working practices, which is really helpful.”
Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop is a desktop application virtualisation service that sits in the cloud and that has been exclusively developed to run in Microsoft Azure. Organisations can securely provide virtual desktops and applications to remote users on any computer.
