m-hance, a leading Microsoft Gold Partner, was selected by Graphcore to migrate its ERP solution from Dynamics GP to Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Based in Bristol, Graphcore has created a completely new processor, the Intelligence Processing Unit (IPU), specifically designed for machine intelligence. The IPU’s unique architecture means developers can run current machine learning models orders of magnitude faster. More importantly, it lets AI researchers undertake entirely new types of work, not possible using current technologies, to drive the next great breakthroughs in general machine intelligence.

Graphcore had been using an on-premise version of Microsoft Dynamics GP. The company is scaling fast and the finance team found that the solution no longer suited their needs as a modern and progressive organisation. As they were already a trusted supplier, Graphcore approached m-hance to discuss the project of transitioning them over to the upcoming new ERP solution from Microsoft; Dynamics 365 Business Central, due for release in April 2018.

Alan Moody, CEO at m-hance, says “We were delighted that Graphcore approached us for this project. The team trusted our reputation as a leading technology solutions provider to deploy a product that hadn’t yet been formally released by Microsoft. We worked closely with the team to understand their needs, which were that they wanted a modern, secure, cloud-based solution, with minimal infrastructure that connected easily to Office 365 products and that could evolve and progress with the Graphcore business. We provided a short-term solution before successfully moving the organisation over to Dynamics 365 Business Central.”

The project was a two-staged approach while the team waited for Dynamics 365 Business Central to be released. The first part was to move them away from the Dynamics GP system and onto their own stand-alone environment, providing training to ensure the team could complete the day-to-day tasks they needed to. Once Dynamics 365 Business Central had been released by Microsoft, the second part of the project could then begin to move them over to this brand-new ERP solution. The project kicked off in Autumn 2018 and went live successfully in early 2019.

Jamie Falconer, Financial Controller at Graphcore states “I am extremely pleased that we are now live on a system that we can look forward to using to help us evolve the way we do finance at Graphcore. I knew we wanted a more modern system that could be tailored better for the way we do business here at Graphcore. Hopefully we have done that by choosing Dynamics 365 Business Central. I look forward to continuing to work with the team at m-hance.”
